Running time: 7:44 minutes
Scenario:
I wonder what it would sound like if someone jump-started my car with a 12-volt battery, even though this old '60 Ford Taunus only runs on a 6-volt battery? The starter definitely won't like that. Adriana tries to start the engine after it’s been sitting for a long time.
A wonderful sound! On the fourth try, the engine actually starts, but stalls again shortly after. Another failed attempt follows. Then it starts again.
But again it doesn’t catch and stalls. Now it seems the engine has flooded. Adriana drains the 6-volt battery. At minute 4:35 of the clip, a neighbor who happens to enter the garage connects a 12-volt battery, because neither he nor Adriana has another 6-volt battery for jump-starting.
You can hear the 6-volt starter turning faster now, but it doesn’t seem to be properly charged. And so Adriana drains it completely as well.
Another 12-volt battery is connected. Now the 6-volt starter spins miserably fast. It even has a few short misfires from time to time.
Adriana smiles along with the painful sound. She seems genuinely sorry that the 6-volt starter is struggling so much. She even uses the choke, pulling it out gently, and then more forcefully! Over and over, pulling it out and pushing it back in, while the starter sounds almost like it’s screaming due to the acoustics of the underground garage. Adriana gestures along perfectly. It’s just great to watch her! She manages to drain the battery again.
Twice she gives the battery a break to recover and partially recharge. This clip was shot in 2011 in an underground garage. Only driver-side views are shown. But still a nice clip, especially because of the beautiful sound of the starter.
