Was für ein schneereicher Morgen! Und kalt ist es! Mariella muss aber trotzdem zur Arbeit. Rechtzeitig hat sie das Haus verlassen. Nur um ihren alten Pontiac vom Schnee zu befreien? Oder ahnt sie, dass sie viel Geduld aufbringen muss, um den Motor erfolgreich zu starten? Hübsche, schwarze Glattlederstiefel hat sie heute Morgen an. Trotz der hohen Absätze bewegt sie sich sicher durch den Schnee. Sie steigt dann ein und beginnt mit den Startversuchen. Schön weich klingt das Wimmern des Anlassers. Nicht mal ein sanftes Zucken des Motors, dass er kommen möchte. Mariella pumpt das Gaspedal dabei gefühlvoll. Nicht so schnell und nicht ganz durch. Sie weiß, dass ihr alter alter Pontiac gerne schnell absäuft. Und tatsächlich! Der Motor springt an! Nur für einen Moment, ehe er wieder ausgeht. Mariella kann es trotz entsprechendem Gaspedalbehandeln nicht verhindern.
Dann schafft es der Motor nur beinahe anzuspringen. Hoffnungsvolle Zuckungen sind zu hören. Aber nach einigen, weiteren Starversuchen, kommen die auch nicht mehr. Mariella gibt nicht auf. Sie hat sich für dieses Szenario ja Zeit genommen. Man hört jetzt, wie die Batterie schwächer wird. Mariella´s Gaspedalpumpen dafür aber um so intensiver. Kräftig, von oben herab. Sodass sich der Absatz ihres rechten Stiefels vom Boden mit abhebt. Bis zum aller letzten Tropfen, holt Mariella alles aus der Batterie heraus. Jede andere hätte schon längst aufgegeben. Mariella nicht. Odwohl sie angespannt durch die Windschutzscheibe schaut, hat man den Eindruck, dass es ihr gefällt, wie das Leiern des Anlassers immer langsamer und leiser klingt. Am Ende steigt sie aus und wir werden nie erfahren, wie sie an diesem Morgen zur Arbeit kommt. Außer die anfängliche Szene, in der Mariella ihr Auto vom Schnee befreit, gibt es in dem Clip drei Ansichten, die ihre vergeblichen Startversuche zeigen. Vom Rücksitz aus, die Pedalansicht und ihr Anblick durch die Windschutzscheibe. Die Anblicke wechseln sich immer wieder ab.
Eine alte, vor ca. 20 Jahren gemachte Aufnahme, die die nicht so gute Bildqualität erklärt, der Ton aber ist wunderbar.

What a snowy morning! And it's cold! Mariella still has to go to work, though. She left the house in plenty of time. Just to clear the snow off her old Pontiac? Or does she suspect she'll need a lot of patience to successfully start the engine? She's wearing pretty black leather boots this morning. Despite the high heels, she moves confidently through the snow. She gets in and begins trying to start it. The starter motor whines softly. Not even a gentle twitch from the engine to indicate it wants to start. Mariella gently pumps the accelerator. Not too fast and not all the way down. She knows her old Pontiac has a tendency to stall. And sure enough! The engine starts! Only for a moment, before it dies again. Mariella can't prevent it, despite her careful handling of the accelerator.
Then the engine almost manages to start. Hopeful twitches can be heard. But after several more attempts, they fail to materialize. Mariella doesn't give up. She's set aside time for this scenario. You can now hear the battery weakening. But Mariella's pumping of the accelerator pedal becomes all the more intense. Powerful, from the top down. So much so that the heel of her right boot lifts off the ground. Mariella squeezes every last drop out of the battery. Anyone else would have given up long ago. Not Mariella. Although she stares tensely through the windshield, you get the impression that she enjoys the way the starter motor's whirring becomes slower and quieter. In the end, she gets out, and we'll never know how she gets to work that morning. Apart from the opening scene in which Mariella clears the snow from her car, the clip contains three shots showing her futile attempts to start the engine: from the back seat, the pedal view, and her view through the windshield. The views change constantly.
It's an old recording, which explains the less-than-ideal picture quality, but the sound is wonderful.
